Community Outreach - I will speak at your organization

I'm dedicated to educating the community at large about family addiction recovery.

My talk, “Intentional Families,” provides participants with a wealth of information.

Through education and support, our goal is to help families understand they are never alone and so powerful and important to the recovery journey.

“At the last treatment center, we were treated as if the family were to blame for everything.”  Jill, recovering parent

"Caregivers of the addicted loved one are part of the solution and not the problem."  Timothy Harrington, CEO, Family Recovery School of Colorado

“How to Become Your Loved One's Best Chance at Change” - A conversation

Most people will agree that addiction causes family problems, but many families have a difficult time accepting that it's a family solution. “If only he would stop drinking, everything would be fine,” or “we are great when she’s not using” are common beliefs among family members of those who are experiencing addiction.

Addiction impacts the entire family unit, and whole-family recovery is absolutely necessary if we are to create sustainable, healthy change.

Millions of families are struggling with substance use disorder or problematic/chaotic drug use. Our goal at Family Addiction Recovery Services is, first of all, to offer hope. Lots of it!

Participants in our talk will learn that they are 50% of the solution not 50% of the problem.

Designed for any person who has been impacted by a loved one’s addiction, “How to Become Your Loved One's Best Chance at Healthy Change” includes the following topics:
  • Addiction – What is it, really?
  • Enabling, Rescuing and Controlling – Teaches how to recognize behaviors used by family members as a result of a loved one’s addiction and how to identify new, healthy behaviors.
  • Identifying and Establishing Personal Boundaries – Teaches how to establish and maintain healthy boundaries as a primary tool and detach from addictive behaviors, while continuing to maintain a powerful, healthy and loving relationship with the person experiencing addiction and/or mental injury.
  • Creating a Support System – Teaches people how to create healthy support in all their relationships and also practice healthy self-care.
